Temporary Exception for Essential Workers from Giving Biometrics Overseas

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, certain temporary foreign workers are temporarily exempt from giving their biometrics outside of Canada if the biometrics collection site nearest to them is closed. Exempt workers may be asked to give biometrics at their Canadian ports of entry.

Workers are included in this exemption if their National Occupational Classification falls under the following categories:

  • agriculture and agri-food
  • healthcare
  • truck drivers

Quarantine requirements continue to apply. If employers are responsible for housing their workers, as is sometimes the case for agricultural employers, the employer must provide adequate accommodation to allow workers to quarantine. Workers will also need a valid job offer to prove that their entry into Canada is essential.
