Medical Services Plan Coverage Now Available to Some Temporary Residents in British Columbia on Implied Status

The Government of British Columbia has recently revised its rules on Medical Services Plan coverage for temporary residents with implied status. The rules now state that: “For those who are in the province with an expired work or study permit, a period of temporary MSP coverage may be provided.”

Accordingly, in response to COVID-19, individuals who are currently in B.C., who were previously enrolled in MSP as a deemed resident, and their MSP has expired, may be provided temporary MSP coverage. These individuals should therefore contact Health Insurance BC as follows in order to request this temporary coverage:

This may include individuals who have applied for a new work or study permit, but it has yet to arrive. In these circumstances temporary coverage will be granted until July 31, 2020.
